As a public school teacher, life is so hectic. But still I wanted to study more in order to develop my skills in helping the community. "No time" is not an excuse for development. DEVC208 was my choice when told to enrol one elective class. Before I've read the books and the online sites, I didn't know of what does communication, social marketing and social mobilization really meant until I've opened the book. It needs for me to read the entire book so as to fully understand its meaning. The topic is very broad so I'm going to absorb the real definition on a step-by-step process until the end of the module. Through social marketing and social mobilization topics, I came to realize of what could be the steps and strategies for me to do in helping the people of my communities. I say communities because I live in Dumaguete City since 1998, my hometown is in Siaton and my workplace is in Basay. I love all the people in the world but to be specific of the areas of where I should share my skills should be my communities first.
After studying this course, I plan to apply all the knowledge and skills acquired from my mentor and bring the spirit of volunteerism towards my communities. I remember when I met two kids on the street and beg for money, I did not refuse to help them even just for that day because my heart was in pain upon talking to them. I used to interview street children and give them suggestions to go home and study to public schools. On that day, I didn't give them money but I let them eat lunch and told them that I'd better let them eat rather than gave them money which might led them to be more lazy not to stay at home and help their parents on household chores. As i was walking along the street, it came into my mind of how could I help the kids in town. I am not rich enough to financially help them. I thought that maybe one day, I will establish a community for street children.
I will be an ambassador of goodwill of my communities, advocating the "No Street-Children Policy" through social mobilization and social marketing by bridging development through strategic communication.
